Trio Hochelaga

The Trio
Biography of the Trio
Anne Robert, violin
Paul Marleyn, cello
Stéphane Lemelin, piano
Founded in 2000, Trio Hochelaga rapidly distinguished itself on the Canadian musical scene as one of the country's most important musical ensembles.

Bearing Montreal's original Iroquois name, the Trio Hochelaga consists of violinist Anne Robert, cellist Paul Marleyn, and pianist Stéphane Lemelin.

The Trio Hochelaga consecrates itself to the performance of chamber music for trio, from the Classical period up to the music of today. Nourishing a special taste for the Romantic and post-Romantic repertoire, and in particular the French repertoire from the end of the 19th to early 20th centuries, the Trio has taken on the mandate of making known the hidden gems of this repertoire to a larger public.

Choc

" Achieving the proper balance between understatement and firmness, the Canadian artists of Trio Hochelaga have captured in these two equally masterful works [trios by Pierné and Fauré] the full spirit of French music."

Jean Roy - Le Monde de la musique

Hochelaga

The name "Hochelaga"
is intimately linked to the history of Montreal.

Hochelaga, which in the Native language means "beaver dam" or "beaver lake", was an Iroquois village situated on the island of Montreal at the heart or immediate vicinity of the Mount Royal in the 16th century. Jacques Cartier was well received upon his visit to the village in October of 1535.
