For
the last ten years, Trio Hochelaga has been delighting audiences with
the depth of its musicianship, precision of its ensemble, and
originality of its programming. Violinist Anne Robert, cellist Paul
Marleyn and pianist Stéphane Lemelin share their passion for the
chamber music repertoire, ranging from the Classical era to
contemporary music, and placing a particular emphasis on French music,
whose lesser-known treasures they have actively explored.
Bearing Montreal’s original Iroquois name, Trio Hochelaga has toured
extensively throughout Canada, as well as Great Britain, the United
States, Bermuda, Japan, China and Taiwan. Their winter 2010 tour of
England included a Wigmore Hall debut and garnered enthusiastic acclaim
in the press; in the spring of 2011, they will be touring in Italy,
making their Venice debut at the Palazetto Bru Zane.
Their considerable discography, chiefly on the Atma Classique label,
has been praised in the international press for its originality and
artistry. Among their recordings are performances of the Gabriel
Pierné and Gabriel Fauré trios, awarded highest honours
by the French magazine Le Monde de la Musique, the first recording of
the complete chamber music for piano and strings by Théodore
Dubois, as well as trios by Guy Ropartz, Rhené-Bâton and
Georges Migot. During the upcoming season, they will be recording works
by Guillaume Lekeu and Ernest Alder.
Resident chamber ensemble of the Conservatoire de musique du
Québec à Montréal, Trio Hochelaga presents an
annual five-concert series in Montréal, often premiering newly
commissioned works. Among others, the Trio gave the first performance
of the Triple Concerto by the late Jacques Hétu, one of Canada’s
most distinguished composers, with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
Trio Hochelaga’s concerts are regularly recorded for broadcast on both
French and English networks of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
and their recordings have been aired by radio stations throughout the
world.
The Trio gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, and of
the Conseil des arts et lettres du
Québec.
